SPACE NELSON ‘DON’T PANIC’  review by Jessica Attene

Between syncopated rhythms and rapid melodic solutions makes way the fifth release of this group from Detroit, active since 1996.  Maybe the "prog" label doesn't "paint brush" depict the music of the quartet, that suggests hard rock by its rough sounds and by its dynamic thrusts, not lacking however some pleasant surprises, like the addition of some passages like Rush on the keyboard, utilized with much frugality, but inserted with intelligence (when they feel like it).  To say it better, songs like "Here Before" leave you rewarded, thanks to a brilliant interval of keyboard fusion.  The various points that seem to lift the level of interest come though interrupted early or not developed completely, leaving unfortunately some isolated episodes. The spirit of the band seems in every manner orientated towards entertainment and they don't lack reference to Pearl Jam and affinity with the Seattle scene.  The voice of Pete, who also plays the keyboard, is very strong and radiophonic and the rhythmic section comes developed to its best and always held along its path vivacious and sustained. Apart from some effective ideas, the objective of the group is that of getting right singable songs, this attitude I do not find to be absolutely negative, but ends up making a potentially shining act commonplace.  The end product is a disc of the type "bite and run", that makes headway in a manner that is more than entertaining.
